總統馬英九今天在總統府與吉里巴斯共和國總統湯安諾會談。馬英九感謝湯安諾對菲國槍殺我漁民事件仗義執言、慰問往生者家屬，政府也會代為轉達。
 
馬英九還說，菲國射殺我漁民事件，雙方調查已接近尾聲，希望調查結果能夠還給家屬公道，讓案子盡快了結。
 
馬說，過去幾十年當中，台灣一直希望能與菲律賓簽署漁業協議、劃定雙方的海域，但一直都不成功，這次事件發生後，我政府向菲國提出4項嚴正要求，包括正式道歉、賠償損失、懲凶，及儘速進行漁業協議協商，很遺憾，因為菲方的反應，沒有辦法達到我們的要求，所以我方提出了11項制裁，馬英九也希望，菲方能儘速正面回應。
